The beaches of the North coast of Mauritius

The North is famous for the abundance of activities on its beaches offering water sports such as water skiing, windsurfing, big game fishing, and parasailing. In the evening, you can enjoy the magnificent views of the sunset, and also the bars and restaurants located nearby the beach.

  • Beach of Trou aux Biches

Trou Aux Biches is one of the best beaches of Mauritius, with good conditions for bathing, diving, and snorkeling. The water is clear, shallow and calm, this beach is therefore ideal for family outings. You will also find various street food stands, cafes and restaurants along the coastal road.

  • Beach of Mont Choisy

The public beach of Mont Choisy is located between Pointe aux Cannoniers and Mont Choisy at approximately 4 km to the south-west of Grand Bay and a little to the north-east of Trou aux Biches. The beach of Mont Choisy is 3 kilometers of white sand, creating a bay of turquoise water, lined filaos which provide shade during summer.

During the week, the beach is almost empty and only a few locals and the tourists visit the beach. During the weekend, the beach is full of Mauritians who come to spend their weekend at the beach with their friends and families.

  • Beach of Pereybere

Located between Grand Bay and Cap Malheureux, the beach of Pereybere is very popular with the locals, in particular during the school holidays when children of all ages come to relax. The water is deeper compared to the other beaches of the island but is still very quiet. Do not forget your mask and snorkel – the crystalline waters offer excellent views on marine life and corals.

  • Beach of Grand Bay

The public beach of Grand Bay is located in the center of Grand Bay and it is impossible to miss. Due to the movement of the very active catamarans inside the bay, the public beach only has a small swimming area. Although the beach is very pleasant and offers a magnificent view on the bay, you must take into account that due to the boats inside the bay, the water is probably not as clear as the other beaches.

The beaches of the East coast of Mauritius

The East coast is wilder and less developed than other parts of Mauritius and offers a spectacular view on the wild nature. The white sand beaches of Blue Bay, Palmar, and Belle Mare extend infinitely along the coast, bordered by the shade of the casuarinas trees on one side and the other, by the lagoon.

The beach of Blue Bay is located in the south-east of Mauritius not far from the port city of Mahebourg. Once you reach the beach of Blue Bay, you will understand the origin of its name. The sea is crystal clear.

However, the less confident swimmers must keep in mind that the currents can sometimes be a little stronger here than elsewhere. The beach of Rivière des Galets is located between Souillac and Bel Ombre. The beach is easily accessible by driving on the coastal road in the direction of Souillac. Rivière des Galets is an ideal place to enjoy a superb view of the sea and on the big waves breaking on the shore.
